On 11 - 10 - 07 I started developing a new message board system. Rather than being a linear threaded system it's matrix of posting boxes. Multiple posts can be made in each box. My current configuration is a 6x6 grid. It currently only works on Firefox/Opera/Netscape (ie It doesn't work with IE). The source code will be available soon.
Here is the Demo of inBoard.
A Bit About Me
Hello, my name is Casey Sistrunk. Fietronic.com is my personal domain that I am using for hosting my resume/portfolio, web log, and contact information. I am a web developer based out of Staunton, Virginia. My first website was up a month after I started using the Internet when I was 13 years old, 8 years ago. I'm a self proclaimed nerd, in love with technology; I live in a digital world. I'd love to land a job doing professional graphic design, perhaps for some type of print publication, but until then I'll continue doing web development.
My Mind
I have a very inquisitive mind. I've always been interested in figuring out how things work and what I can make them do for me. Sometimes figuring something out can end in folly, like when I figured out what "formatting" means but afterwards I had learned something. This mindset has expanded beyond computers over the years though. My newest expedition is into the innards social situations. People are the ultimate system, dynamic and ever changing. I was an introvert most of my childhood but around the age of 18 I started having a personal interest in Sociology, if you want to call it that.
My Knowledge
Most of what I know has come from my personal quest for knowledge. I've discovered that my only real passion (that I can make living with at least) is graphic design. I enjoy the work, I am good at it, it is challenging, and it allows me to be creative. I hope to go to the Art Institute one day. That day being when I have ~$70K laying around.
I used to think that I was going to end up being a programmer but I was really only fooling myself. I'm really good at programming (or scripting if you prefer) but I can only ever program for 2 or 3 hours before I start to feel exhausted. I either don't have the mindset to sit for hours staring at code or I don't have the passion for it. Debugging isn't too bad. I'm really good at tracing/locating bugs; even in languages I don't know, on occasion. But graphic design, that's my calling.
My Creativity
I love to create new things. I love art, I love music, I love to be inspired. I learned how to create music (or something like it) with Fruity Loops 3 when I was 16. It's progressed over the years from 16 second tribal drum beats to an 8 minute opus. I'm no Beethoven but it's something I enjoy. I also taught myself how to play the Didgeridoo when I was 17 after I saw a documentary on Australian Aborigines. I have also made a couple Didgeridoos out of PVC pipe, with a propane torch, sandpaper, and paint. My new goal is to learn how to play the bongos (well).
Fietronic
For anyone who cares, my handle, fie, is actually an acronym that stands for Function If Else. I was trying to think of a screen name for a BBS I was on and I had been learning ActionScript that week so I figured I'd throw together some random programming jargon. I always had the intent to initialize it though. Originally I wrote it FIE but later on I started hanging out with a group of people from IRC that called me "Fie", as in "Fee Fie Foe Fum". So it stuck and I've used the same name for years. The "tronic" got added on later because it sounds cool and web services with 500,000 users tend to not have 3 letter names available.
